преди 10 часа, Martin каза:

Bald&Bankrupt

𝟮𝟭 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 Antarctica :

1. Antarctica is the coldest, driest, windiest, and highest continent on Earth. It is also the world's largest desert.

2. The South Pole, located in Antarctica, experiences six months of continuous daylight during the austral summer and six months of darkness during the austral winter.

3. Antarctica is the only continent without a native human population. However, it hosts a rotating population of scientists and support staff from various countries who live and work in research stations.

4. The Antarctic Ice Sheet contains about 70% of the world's fresh water and holds approximately 90% of the world's ice.

5. The Antarctic Treaty, signed in 1959, designates Antarctica as a scientific preserve and prohibits military activity, nuclear testing, and mineral mining on the continent.

6. Emperor penguins, the tallest and heaviest of all penguin species, are native to Antarctica. They are known for their distinctive black and white plumage and their ability to survive in harsh Antarctic conditions.

7. The Antarctic Peninsula is one of the fastest-warming regions on Earth, experiencing significant climate change impacts such as ice shelf collapse and glacial retreat.

8. Lake Vostok, buried beneath more than 3,700 meters of ice, is one of the largest subglacial lakes in Antarctica. It is believed to have been isolated from the outside world for millions of years.

9. Antarctica is home to the Dry Valleys, one of the driest places on Earth. These valleys have not seen rainfall for millions of years and are devoid of snow and ice.

10. The ozone hole, a seasonal thinning of the ozone layer in the stratosphere, was first discovered over Antarctica in the 1980s. It is caused by human-made chemicals called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).

11. The Transantarctic Mountains divide East Antarctica, which is mostly covered by the Antarctic Ice Sheet, from West Antarctica, which contains the smaller West Antarctic Ice Sheet.

12. Mount Erebus, an active volcano located on Ross Island in Antarctica, is the southernmost volcano on Earth. It has a continuously active lava lake within its summit crater.

13. The Antarctic Treaty System includes agreements that regulate environmental protection, scientific research, and conservation efforts in Antarctica.

14. The Southern Ocean surrounds Antarctica and is home to a rich diversity of marine life, including krill, seals, whales, and various species of fish and birds.

15. Antarctica's highest point is Vinson Massif, a mountain in the Ellsworth Mountains, which rises to an elevation of 4,892 meters (16,050 feet) above sea level.

16. The Antarctic Peninsula is a breeding ground for various species of seals, including Weddell seals, crabeater seals, leopard seals, and Ross seals.

17. Antarctica is an important area for scientific research, particularly in the fields of climate science, glaciology, oceanography, and astronomy. Research conducted in Antarctica helps scientists better understand global climate patterns and phenomena.

18. The South Magnetic Pole, where the Earth's magnetic field points vertically downwards, is located in Antarctica but constantly shifts position due to changes in the Earth's magnetic field.

19. Antarctica's ice shelves play a crucial role in stabilizing the Antarctic Ice Sheet by slowing the flow of ice into the ocean. However, some ice shelves have experienced significant thinning and collapse in recent years due to climate change.

20. The Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM) is an annual gathering of representatives from countries that are party to the Antarctic Treaty. It provides a forum for discussing matters related to Antarctic governance and management.

21. Antarctica is considered one of the last true wilderness areas on Earth, with vast expanses of untouched landscapes and ecosystems that remain largely unaffected by human activities.
