Пунта Кана не е сериозно засегната от урагана, според информацията от страницата на хотела ми и от Министерството на туризма. Има паднали дървета и частични поражения по сградите, които вече поправят. Според хора, които в момента са в хотела и коментират под поста във фейсбук, до 2-3 дни трябва да няма и следа, че някога оттам е минавал ураган.

 

Сега търся информация за Лас Теренас, което е по-северно и съответно може би по-сериозно засегнато.

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – September 22, 2017— The Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic (MITUR) reports that Hurricane Maria did not have any impact on tourist destinations, and all airports, ports and highways operate on a normal basis. Today, the U.S. National Hurricane Center has discontinued all hurricane and tropical storm alerts for the country.

The Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier García, announced that destinations are functioning normally. García recognized the professionalism of industry members, as well as  the tourists’ positive attitude, which allowed authorities and the tourism sector to follow through with the prevention plan and development of contingency protocols without any incident.

“What’s most important is that not one tourist, of the more than 50,000 who are staying at our hotels, were harmed in any way,” said Minister García.

The airports of Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, La Romana, Samaná, Santiago and Puerto Plata have resumed normal operations. It is recommended that visitors contact the airline and/or tour operator of their preference to receive more detailed updates. Furthermore, cruise ports have restored operations, with more than 50 cruise ships expected to arrive this year. Likewise, all tourist excursions and attractions are reestablishing their normal schedules.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has announced that it will be resuming flight service to the island of St Maarten beginning Oct. 29.

The news is a significant boost for the island whose Princess Juliana airport was ravaged by Hurricane Irma.

KLM will be lowering its frequencies, however, with two weekly flights instead of four weekly flights, and the flights will stopover in Curacao.

Heavily impacted by Maria. Currently Airports are focusing on relief missions. 95% of the island is still without power, may not be up and running for weeks.

• TJZS/San Juan FIR ATC Operating but with reduced capacity – limitations due to lack of working frequencies and radar.
• TJSJ/San Juan: Open and operating 0800-1400 local time daily – only military and hurricane relief flights allowed outside these times. Airport is under massive strain due to lack of working VHF frequencies, and no radar.  CPDLC unavailable.  Commercial traffic is accepted but under an EDCT program. Fuel is available. Operators must make contact with Aerostar or handler for gate allocation. Slots now only required if you’re using the contingency ramp there. Call MFOC at 001-850-283-5994 all other flights file FPL normal.
• TJIG/Isla Grande: Open and operating from 0600-1900. Customs open 0800-1730.  Frequency 121.7 for advisory. Tower is operational. Overnight parking now available.
• TJBQ/Aguadilla: Military and Relief flights only. Tower is open and operating. Limited water, electricity, and internet. For services phone contact has been more successful due to internet complications.
• TJPS/Ponce: Military and Hurricane relief only.
• TJRV/Ceiba: Military, Hurricane relief, and GA flights only. Sunrise to Sunset only due to airport lighting down. VFR only no ATC or Tower. Fuel available. No PPR needed. No heavy equipment available to offload supplies.
• TJVQ/Vieques: Airport remains closed.

U.S. Virgin Islands

• TISX/St.Croix: Open and operating for hurricane relief, military, and commercial flights. A contingency ramp has been established for FEMA/DOD flights they require Slot reservation contact MFOCC at 1-850-282-0236. All aircraft should contact Longhorn Ops on 251.9 or 139.9 (+/-20min) before landing to arrange parking and fueling. Normal ATC procedures.
• TIST/St.Thomas: Open and operating. Airport hours are 0900-1800 local time. Only military ops allowed outside these hours.  Tower and unicom frequency is 118.8. Limited coverage from SJU Center.  ATIS, navaids, ILS, runway lights – all out of service.  For services contact St.Thomas Jet Center 340-777-9177 / customerservice@sttjetcenter.com

British Virgin Islands

Already widespread damage after Irma, with further complications by Maria.  Expecting more information through the week.

• TUPJ/Beef Island-Tortola: Open and operating 1130-2100z, but VFR only. Fuel available, limited internet, and electrical power.  The perimeter fence was badly damaged by hurricane Irma, so the airport is no longer secured. ATS services reduced to 5nm radius of the airport. Non-commercial flights will need to get PPR here: http://ppr.bviaaops.com
• TUPA/Anegada: Airport closed.
• TUPW/Virgin Gorda: Airport closed.

Sint Maartin

Local curfew is 1200am- 5am as of 02 October.  Phone contact can be tricky. Airspace to the North is being controlled by KZMA and to the South by TTPP.  Commercial flights are to begin on 10 October.

• TNCM/Princess Juliana: VHR and VFR ops are allowed from 1130-2130Z for humanitarian, military, emergency flights and state flights only with prior permission. Fuel is now available. Flight require to be pre coordinated, unannounced flights don’t have guaranteed cargo handling.  Equipment to offload cargo is fine, Menzies in charge of the cargo loader.  Main Frequency 118.7 ATC is organized by Dutch MIL ATC, expect to be picked up 25nm out no radar is available. 3 fire vehicles active at the airport, fire CAT 9. For coordination FL0 – 150 contact 1-721-545-52160 OR 1-721-545-5753 until 20Oct. Pre-approval can be requested by email: Louis.halley@sintmaartengov.org or by phone: +1-721-520-5339.

Anguilla

• TQPF/The Valley: Humanitarian/Emergency relief flights, Passenger pick ups, and Residents only.  Open from 1100Z to Sunset only. PPR required. Upon arrival Comms offer info and assist with traffic. Call sign Anguilla Radio on 118.500 25NM out. Fuel is available, Internet, Water and Electrical in terminal. When calling for permission they need: Aircraft Type, ETA, ETD, and purpose of trip. ATC not available Contact 1-264-476-9642 or 1-246-476-5655.  Expecting more updates through the week.

Guadeloupe

• TFFR/Pointe-a-Pitre: Open and operating

Dominica

Serious damage. Homes and trees flattened. Recovery efforts are currently being coordinated from the nearby islands of St Lucia and Antigua.

• TDPD/Roseau: Humanitarian and Relief Flights only. 1100-2200Z due to location of airport on the east side of the mountain range sunsets quickly. Electricity is via standby generator. Water supply is limited and Fuel not available. Comms 118.9 standby radio is working and Fire CAT5. Ground handling is present for emergency. Customs, Immigration, and agriculture officers present.
• TDCF/Canefield: Humanitarian flights only. Largest aircraft that can operate there is a Twin Otter. Most utilizing Helicopters and St.Lucia is being used as a staging airport. Update expected soon.

В тази тема ще споделя малко лични впечатления. На остров Тортола бяхме с круиз 3 месеца след като през него мина ураган от 5-та степен. Нашият кораб беше вторият който приставаше там след урагана.

Тортола е част от Британските Вирджински острови и въпреки това възстановителните работи видимо вървяха доста бавно, а проблемите и 3 месеца след урагана огромни. От фейсбук страницата на правителството бях подготвен, че между на между 30% и 70% от островите в зависимост от района все още нямат електричество, а много от пътищата ги затварят периодично поради ремонтни дейности. Една седмица преди да пристигнем обаче ни изненадаха и с новината, че поради дъждове водата на някои плажове се е заразила с бактерии и те са затворени. Когато пристигнаме реално имаше един плаж до който можеше да се отиде с такси, но ние решихме да го пропуснем, защото бяхме с малки деца и не искахме да рискуваме евентуална зараза. От круизната компания нищо не знаеха за заразената вода и смело организираха турове до плажа. Аз предопредих рецепцията, но отговорът им беше, че те си имат официални канали за информация и не ги интересува какво пише дори във фейсбук страницата на местното правителство.

От далече когато приставахме си мислих, че всичко вече е възстановено, но когато приближихме рабрах, че нямаше нито една сграда, която да не е пострадала сериозно.

Пътищата вече бяха изчистени от отломки, но покрай пътищата беше пълно с разбити коли. Почти нямаше сграда без отнесен или пострадал покрив.

Колко жалко! Тези острови бяха прекрасни - изключителна природа, весели хора, чисто и подредено. Дано се възстановят бързо!

За съжаление възстановяването ще трае години, но аз лично не съжалявам, че видяхме и така Тортола, защото децатата със собствените си очи видяха силата на природата и за в бъдеще вероятно ще уважават повече природните сили.

 

Въпреки разрушенията хората продължаваха нормалния си ритъм на живота по най-различен начин. Магазините слагаха шперплат вместо прозореци и отваряха. За чужденците беше доста трудно да се ориентират, защотото всички рекламни надписи бяха унищожени от урагана, а през шперплатовите прозорци не се виждаше какво има зад тях. Някой път съвсем изненадващо зад една шперплатова врата се отваряше цял хипермаркет, сладкарница и т.н.
