A TikTok user posted a video that he ended up deleting, which shows him allegedly grilling a steak in an airplane lavatory. The video seems to be filmed in the lavatory of a Delta Connection regional jet.

The video depicts the man placing a heater in the toilet bowl, then starting a fire with a lighter, and then placing an aluminum grilling sheet across the toilet seat.

At that point he places the steak on the sheet, pours some white wine on it, and eventually the steak is cooked. Afterwards he plates the steak and returns to his seat with it. At least that’s how it’s presented.

This incident happened on November 11, 2020, and involves low cost carrier Pobeda, which is Aeroflot’s wholly owned subsidiary. A Boeing 737-800 was operating flight DP407 from Moscow to Yekaterinburg, which ordinarily has a flight time of just over two hours.

However, this flight was different. About three quarters of the way into the flight, the pilots requested permission to perform some air maneuvers because they claimed they needed to check their radio navigation equipment.

 

 

What did the investigation determine?

Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency has just completed an investigation into the incident, and we now have some answers… though frankly we also have more questions.

Here’s what’s being claimed about the situation, according to RBC:

• It was determined that this maneuver wasn’t necessary, and was in fact an attempted display of “solidarity”
• It was decided that this “was a consequence of the failure of the Pobeda leadership to develop and maintain a safety culture, which should determine the absolute priority of flight safety issues”
• It was discovered that there was an attempt on November 10 to perform a similar maneuver on a flight from Moscow to St. Petersburg; the crew claimed it needed to perform maneuvers to practice draining fuel, but this request was denied (ironically this wasn’t even something the plane was capable of, so that seemed like a poorly thought out lie)
• Pobeda’s director of flight operations, Denis Petrikov, has been fired over the incident; furthermore, Pobeda’s general director, Andrey Kalmykov, has been reprimanded, but not fired

CAAC recommends diapers for crews

Bloomberg reports on how the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has published an updated 38-page list of guidelines for airlines, intended to stop the spread of coronavirus. This is the sixth edition of the guidance issued.

The CAAC is recommending that on charter flights to high-risk countries, flight attendants wear disposable diapers so that they can avoid using the lavatories, since that’s the area of the plane where you have the highest risk of infection.

High-risk countries are defined as those with infections exceeding 500 per million people. I would guess that’s based on average weekly cases, in which case the US more than qualifies (we’re at 600+ cases per million in the past week).

The section on personal protective equipment recommends that flight attendants wear medical protective masks, double-layer disposable medical rubber gloves, goggles, disposable caps, disposable protective clothing, and disposable shoe covers.

Now, in fairness, these are just recommendations — crews are only required to wear masks and goggles, while the diapers are optional, at least on the CAAC level (individual airlines can also set stricter policies, of course).

 

Bottom line

The CAAC is recommending that flight attendants on charter flights to high risk destinations wear disposable diapers to avoid using lavatories.

On the one hand, lavatories are the highest risk part of the plane, due to the lack of air circulation. On the other hand, diapers.

• The flight attendants were able to move passengers so that the woman being harassed felt more comfortable
• The passenger then refused to wear his mask repeatedly, and kept going to the bathroom
• The passenger then started antagonizing other passengers, including making knife stabbing motions towards other passengers
• The passenger was observed exhibiting erratic behavior and “snorting a white substance”
• While he was in the bathroom again, the crew found a bag of “white substance” at his seat
• When the passenger returned he remained calm after being told to settle down, clearly realizing the crew had found his cocaine
• All flight attendants felt uncomfortable, as did passengers, so that’s why the captain made the decision to divert

Flight has 82% COVID-19 testing positivity rate

A charter flight that landed in India today had even more positive coronavirus cases than that the previous flight. The flight in question was YU632, a charter flight on EuroAtlantic Airways, which is a Portuguese charter company. The airline was operating a flight from Rome, Italy (FCO), to Amritsar, India (ATQ).

After a flight of just over seven hours, the plane landed in India earlier today, and passengers were tested on arrival (as is the standard requirement when coming from a “high-risk” country):

• There were 285 passengers, but only 210 passengers had to get tested, since the requirement doesn’t apply to children
• Of the 210 passengers tested, at least 173 tested positive
• That means the test positivity rate was 82%; crunching the numbers, I would guess that probably at least ~234 passengers actually have coronavirus, since kids aren’t being tested (and probably even more, since kids are less likely to be vaccinated)
• Passengers who tested positive will be put into quarantine, but who knows if they’ll stay; on the previous flight, 13 people “escaped” the quarantine facility

You know the wildest part of this story? The plane that was operating this route was the exact same plane that carried the people to India a couple of days before, where there were at least 125 positive cases. The Boeing 767-300 with the registration code CS-TST flew from Milan to Amritsar on Wednesday, then it flew to Rome, and then it flew back to Amritsar, arriving today.

И двата случая са доста странни. Бих предположил ,че въпросните чартъри са точно за да извозват ковид позитивни обратно в Индия за лечение и карантина у дома. Няма да е голяма изненада ,ако всички пътници са едва от 10-15 по-многолюдни семейства.

Индия изисква ПСР 72 часа дореди полета , не мисля , че са били “ковид чартъри”.

По-вероятно тур групи за посрещане на НГ в Рим/Милано или може би дори прибиране на работници живеещи на големи групи в общежития , но това би било по-реално, ако полетите бяха преди НГ.

 

Това, което ме обърква , е как всички пътници са били негативни 72 часа преди полета, тоест в една лаборатория ли са тествали , фалшиви ПСР ли са показали , или лабораторията в Индия има твърде завишени критерии за позитивни резултати? 
Примерно , в Италия под/над 20 единици си негативен , а в Индия под/над 35 единици?

Изобщо, каква е граничната стойност и еднаква ли е по-света ?

Първоначално и аз това си помислих, но чак такова заразяване за толкова кратко време, което да се отчете с тест непосредствено след края на полета при толкова голям процент? Ако такава е реалността с Омикрон много бързо ще се появят и други такива примери.

По-вероятна ми се струва схема с фалшиви тестове (които и тук можеш да намериш без много усилия), лошо взети проби от лаборатория преди полета, дефектни тестове.

Air Canada and Air Transat both say they will not permit members of the group from boarding their planes to return home. Air Transat tweeted that those passengers won’t be allowed to board their jets due to safety concerns.

 

The hits keep on coming for the stranded influencers, who could face stiff fines along with public ridicule.

Transport Canada, the country’s transportation authority, said it is investigating the chaotic flight and that passengers could face fines as high as CA$5,000 (about $3,954) for violating Canada’s COVID-19 restrictions. One of those protocols, of course, is you are forbidden to travel without masks.

 

Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau said during a press conference the group’s reckless actions are insulting to their fellow countrymen who have followed the protocols during the pandemic.  “I think, like all Canadians who’ve seen those videos, I’m extremely frustrated,” he said.
