New Air Passenger Rights in the EU⚡ What Will Change from 23 October 2027 A small cabin bag will be free of charge From 23 October 2027, passengers will be able to bring one personal item into the cabin free of charge: either one measuring up to 40 × 30 × 15 cm or one that fits under the seat in front. The EU rules currently do not provide for such a right. Seating next to a child will be free of charge Under the current EU rules, airlines are not required to seat a child next to the accompanying adult free of charge. From 23 October 2027, an airline will have to seat an adult travelling with a child under 14 under the same contract of carriage in an adjacent seat free of charge. The same will apply to persons with disabilities or reduced mobility and pregnant passengers: they and the persons accompanying them must also be seated next to each other free of charge. If there are no adjacent seats available, the airline will only be required to make reasonable efforts to assist. Name errors will be corrected free of charge There is currently no uniform EU-wide right to have a name corrected free of charge. Under the new rules, an airline will have to correct a spelling error in a passenger’s name or update it following an administrative change free of charge, at least once. The request must be submitted no later than 48 hours before departure. This cannot be used to transfer a ticket to another person. Paper boarding passes will be free of charge An airline will not be allowed to charge a passenger who has checked in for a paper boarding pass. It will also have to accept a boarding pass printed by the passenger at the gate. Airlines will also be prohibited from requiring passengers to install an app or create an account solely to obtain a boarding pass. Compensation: same amounts, new deadlines If a passenger arrives at the final destination more than three hours late because of a delay, they will continue to be entitled to €250, €400 or €600, depending on the distance. What changes is the deadline for submitting a claim. It will have to be submitted within nine months of the flight date. There is currently no single EU-wide deadline: national limitation periods apply, and in some countries they can run for several years. The airline will have to acknowledge receipt of the claim immediately and, within 30 calendar days, either pay the compensation or explain why the claim has been rejected. The current EU rules do not set a deadline for the airline’s response.
Надявам се това да проработи реално : A return flight will not be cancelled because the outbound flight was missed Under the current rules, an airline may cancel a return flight if a passenger did not take the outbound flight. From 2027, this will be prohibited: if both flights are covered by the same contract of carriage, the airline will not be allowed either to cancel the return flight or to charge an additional fee for it. If the airline fails to find another flight within three hours, passengers can buy a ticket themselves This is a new right. If a flight is cancelled or a passenger cannot continue their journey, the airline must offer an alternative route. If it has not done so within three hours, the passenger may, after notifying the airline, purchase a ticket themselves. Necessary and reasonable expenses will be reimbursed up to 400% of the price of the original ticket, including intermediary fees. П.П.
